Aspen needs Paulson

Dear Editor:Bumper-to-bumper, stop-and-go Aspen grows larger, louder, more congested at an alarming rate. New mansions are everywhere, as monster second homes invade Highlands and gaze across Maroon Creek at recent subdivisions clinging to the slopes of Buttermilk. Whole city blocks have been gutted, while steel beams climb into the sky. The neighborhood above Wagner Park changes before our very eyes as plastic grass grows beneath our feet. Now it’s Aspen/Snowmass and the trucks are coming here, too, big time. While bank after bank hoards the profits, the Paragon becomes an ever-distant memory, hidden behind office after office selling the rapidly fading Aspen dream. Can this expansion go on and on, or is it already too late? When does it stop, or at least slow down? Clearly, sustainability has not been a priority for the current city administration, because what is happening is clearly not sustainable. Meanwhile, for the past decade, one voice has never wavered. A voice that listens, considers, is respectful, seasoned, humorous and well-informed. A voice that has declared, over and over again, that this level of growth cannot be sustained and is eroding the community we love.Voters who, for whatever reasons, support Burlingame may well consider, at the same time, electing Terry Paulson as mayor worthy of Aspen.
