Aspen Misc.: Aspen ProStart team wins second at state comp.
Aspen High School’s ProStart team was awarded second place at the Colorado ProStart Invitational state championships last month, earning the team scholarship money for continuing culinary education. Morgan Henschke teaches the program at the high school, and Cache Cache chef/owner Chris Lanter is the program’s mentor. The students on the culinary team are Jes Stuart, Jackson Landis, Gio Velasquez, Linzhi Douglass and Matilda Nickell.
The scholarship winnings include:
Auguste Escoffier School of Culinary Arts: $3,000 (one-time award)
Johnson & Wales University: $750 (renewable)
New England Culinary Institute: $12,000 (over three years)
Le Cordon Bleu: $3,000 (one-time award)
Louisiana Culinary Institute: $2,000 (one-time award)
Sullivan University: $4,000 (one-time award)

The town of Basalt is working on an update to its 2007 master plan. The document will be a blueprint for how and where the town will grow. But the family that has owned a 180-acre ranch at the edge of town for nearly 60 years objected Tuesday to the document’s parameters for its property.
