Aspen Middle School takes up book campaign

ASPEN – The Aspen Middle School library will open its doors Tuesday evening as part of World Book Night, a campaign to give thousands of free paperbacks, on one day, to light readers or nonreaders across America.

As part of the event, readers of all ages will join together at the middle school library; light refreshments will be served, and books will be given away. Leading up to tonight’s celebration, volunteers from the community also have been giving out books at various locations and events around town.

The title list for World Book Night in the United States includes 30 different books, all chosen by an independent panel of booksellers and librarians. The printing of the free books was sponsored by the authors, publishers and book-manufacturing companies.

“In my experience, when people like what they are doing, they do more of it. This is the genius of World Book Night – it gets people reading by connecting them with amazing, enjoyable books. I’m honored to be a part of it,” said honorary co-chairs and authors James Patterson and Ann Patchett in a prepared statement.
