Aspen man arrested on drug charges
Aspen, CO, Colorado
ASPEN – Aspen police arrested a man Saturday night at Belly Up on felony drug charges, and later seized more illegal contraband and cash from his vehicle and residence.
As of 10:40 a.m. Sunday, Thomas Simmons, 21, of Aspen, remained incarcerated at Pitkin County Jail on a bond of $67,000, according to an Aspen Police Department press release.
Police used an arrest warrant, stemming from a previous case, to apprehend Simmons at the downtown nightclub, the press release said.
“Upon his arrest Simmons was searched and found in possession of substances which were believed to be cocaine and MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy, and appeared to be packaged for sale. He was charged with possession and distribution of a controlled substance (both fourth-degree felonies), tampering with evidence (sixth-degree felony), and general criminal attempt (second-degree felony),” the press release said.
Later, police executed a search warrant on Simmons’ car and home, and found and confiscated $9,000 in cash, 130 grams of ecstasy, 45 grams of cocaine, 25 grams of psilocybin mushrooms and approximately 5 grams of “other drugs,” the press release said.
Simmons has yet to be formally charged by the 9th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.
