Aspen Leafs open home season Friday night

The puck will drop on a new era of Aspen hockey Friday night.

The Aspen Leafs Junior A team will open the home season Friday in the inaugural season of the Rocky Mountain Junior Hockey League.

The Leafs, who won their first two league games last weekend in Breckenridge, will host the Colorado Rampage from Monument at 7 p.m. at the Aspen Ice Garden in downtown Aspen. There will be a $5 admission fee.



The two teams will play again Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the Aspen Ice Garden.

The Aspen Leafs swept the Breckenridge Bucks last weekend, scoring seven power-play goals and three shorthanded goals in a 7-1 win and an 8-0 win.




Andrew Lee of Tualain, Oregon, scored four goals in the opener.

Ivan Bondarenko of Moscow, Russia, had two goals in his debut.

On Saturday, Aspen native Arthur Kelso scored his first two goals of the season. Lee added two more goals.

Aspen Leafs defenseman Cal Erdman of Rhinelander, Wisconsin, had six assists over the weekend. He also scored a goal.

Aspen’s Anders Brucker filled in at goalie for injured starter Matt Soldano of Maple Valley, Washington. Brucker stopped 56 of 57 shots last weekend.

The Rampage won two games last weekend, starting with a 5-1 win over the Colorado Thunderbirds (Denver).

Alex Schubert of Colorado Springs scored two goals.

Sam Gilmore of Westminster scored two goals for the Rampage in the second victory behind Rampage goaltender Landon Anderson of Murray, Utah.
