Aspen junior golfers score in Tanner Daily tourney

Aspen Times Staff Report

The Aspen Junior Golf Program recently sent 67 youngsters to the fifth annual Tanner Daily Memorial Golf Tournament at the Ranch at Roaring Fork par-three golf course.

The event is played every year to honor the memory and spirit of the late Tanner Daily, a great junior golfer who played in the program.

There were some great scores and shots made by some of the players, including;

– Peter Van Domelen’s 30-foot putt for a birdie 2 on the third hole;

– Michelle Elliott’s brilliant chip-in for par on the tough fifth hole;

– and Katie Barabe’s back-to-back pars on the fourth and fifth holes to secure her victory in the 11-older girls division.

Derek Fribbs showed a masterful touch around the greens en route to victory in the 8-year-old advanced boys division.

Logan Tierney and Haylen Gregory both stayed steady for their victories in 8-9 intermediate boys and 11-under girls, respectively.

And Josh Rubinstein made a tough putt to clinch his playoff win over Moses Namkung in 12-older boys.

Other winners included:

– Eric Angus in 9-year-old advanced boys;

– Drew Lederer in 10-year-old advanced boys;

– Whit Fuller in 11-year-old advanced boys;

– and Eric Lundin in 10-11 intermediate boys.

Lawrence Poh, playing in the 12-year-old caddies division, had the low round of the day with a 34.

The rain stayed away, and all the children received a hearty lunch courtesy of Sherry Rubin and her friends.

All in all, the junior golfers agreed it was a great tribute to Tanner and the game of golf.
