Aspen home destroyed by fire early Saturday morning
The Aspen Fire Protection District responded to a structure fire early Saturday morning that resulted in the total loss of the home.
The single-family home, located at 24 McSkimming Road near Independence Pass, was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived after being dispatched at 3:25 a.m. Two occupants and a dog were self-evacuated after a passerby banged on their door to make them aware of the situation. The smoke alarms in the home were not functioning.
The occupants were treated and released by Aspen Ambulance at the scene.
Aspen Fire responded with three fire engines, one ladder truck and 21 personnel, while Snowmass-Wildcat Fire provided additional manpower. The fire was brought under control at approximately 5:12 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation by the fire marshal’s office.
