Aspen hits dry spell; rain, snow in forecast

ASPEN ” Tuesday marks a full week since Aspen’s morning snow report detailed any, well, snow.

The Aspen Skiing Co. has posted zeros for seven straight days and it appears it will do so at least through Wednesday. A chance for precipitation is back in the forecast Thursday, but it could fall as rain, according to the National Weather Service.

Tuesday’s forecast for Aspen calls for continued sunny skies with highs in the 20s. Mostly sunny skies Wednesday morning will become partly sunny in the afternoon, with highs of 25 to 35 before mostly cloudy skies develop Wednesday night, according to the weather service.



On Thursday ” opening day of Winter X Games 13 in Aspen ” the weather service is calling for mostly cloudy skies with a 20 percent chance of rain and snow, and highs of 25 to 35. There’s a 30 percent chance of rain and snow on Thursday night, with lows of 15 to 25, and a 30 percent chance of rain and snow Friday, with highs of 25 to 35, according to the forecast.

Heading into the weekend, rain and snow remains in the forecast on Saturday, but by Sunday and Monday, the weather service is predicting a 40 percent chance of snow (just snow) and highs in the 30s.
