Aspen High student faces assault charge

ASPEN ” An Aspen High School student faces an assault charge after he allegedly punched another juvenile at the campus, authorities said Wednesday.
The incident happened May 18 on school grounds during the early afternoon, said Bruce Benjamin, juvenile-crime investigator for the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office. The students were not identified either by name or grade level because both are minors.
“Two males,” Benjamin said. “It was an assault.”
He said one of the students suffered an injury to the jaw. The extent of the damage was not disclosed.
The alleged assailant is expected to appear in Pitkin County juvenile court Monday, at which time he will likely be advised of the assault charge.
The District Attorney’s Office in Aspen declined comment. District Superintendent Diana Sirko could not be reached for comment.
Car crash on Colorado Highway 82 causes trouble for morning commute
A car crash on Highway 82 near Snowmass Village had traffic down to one lane for about an hour early Tuesday morning. No serious injuries were reported.
