Aspen High girls soccer beats Olathe

Aspen High School’s girls soccer team chalked up a 5-1 win last week in a Thursday match against Olathe.

AHS senior Ellen Falender topped all scorers for the day with three goals, with additional scores by Devon McCloskey and Allison Eastley.

“The girls played very well, and this was only our third time on grass,” Aspen coach Kris Hattrup said. “We pulled up two JV players, and Kelly Waldron played sweeper for the first time. She did an excellent job.”

The Olathe win marked the Skiers’ third game of the season, as heavy snowfall led to the cancellation of a March 17 match against Ralston Valley.

“It gave us a much-needed day off,” Hattrup said.

The game will probably not be made up this season, Hattrup said, as AHS concentrates on an already full schedule.

“We’ll probably forget it. There’s just no time,” she said. “We have 11 games between April 3 and May 3, and it wasn’t a league game.”

Aspen’s next match, an April 3 game against Eagle Valley, will be the Skiers’ first after spring break. The week-long vacation should be a big help to the team as the girls take some much-deserved time off, Hattrup said.
