Aspen Fourth of July Grand Marshal announced
The Aspen Chamber Resort Association and the city of Aspen choose someone in Aspen each year to lead the Old Fashioned Fourth of July parade. This year, the Aspen High School boys Lacrosse Team accepted the honor as grand marshal.
In May, the Colorado 4A team became state champions. This was the first state championship for Aspen. In 2008, the Aspen team became an official state team with the help of Coach Mike Goerne, who has been coaching at Aspen High School since 2006. Goerne led the boys lacrosse team to victory along with assistant coaches Blue Pressler, Jay Maher, Bailey Conners, John Adams and Trey Gant.
Fifty students make up the boys lacrosse team — 20 of which are varsity, and 12 seniors who have been playing together since second grade. These boys have helped paved the way for youth programs and elevated the enthusiasm for lacrosse in the Aspen community.
