Aspen Forest Service office open on weekends

ASPEN – The U.S. Forest Service’s Aspen Ranger District office has expanded its summer service with regular weekend hours.

Some last-minute, additional funding keyed by the severe fire danger allows the office, at 806 W. Hallam St. (right next to Highway 82 – at the corner of Seventh and Hallam – in Aspen’s West End) to be open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. The weekend hours will continue through Labor Day weekend.

Last weekend, the office saw about 60 visitors on Saturday and about 30 on Sunday, according to Martha Moran, recreation staff supervisor for the ranger district.

A staffer is available at the office to answer questions about fire restrictions, camping and hiking and to offer other information related to the White River National Forest.

The office is also open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
