Aspen enjoys a taste of summer

ASPEN ” The weekend’s summerlike temperatures and sunny skies will continue in Aspen through Wednesday morning, before clouds and a chance of thunderstorms develop late in the week, according to the National Weather Service.
It could be the first time in three weeks that Aspen doesn’t see snow, though the weather service forecast does include the potential for rain and snow showers on Saturday night.
Continuing warm weather has spurred a flood watch for various rivers in western Colorado and eastern Utah, particularly the East River at Almont, Colo. and the Yampa river at Deerlodge Park, Colo. and the Green River near Jensen, Utah.
Sunday’s high in Aspen was 70 degrees, according to the weather service, and mostly sunny skies and highs of 65 to 75 are predicted Monday and Tuesday. Highs of 55 to 65 are in the forecast Wednesday, along with a 20 percent chance of showers by Wednesday afternoon.
The predicted high for Aspen dips into the 50s on Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms. Friday’s forecast calls for mostly cloudy skies, highs of 55 to 65, and a 30 percent chance of showers.
Partly sunny skies are back in the forecast on Saturday and Sunday, with a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms each day and highs of 45 to 55.
