Aspen derby ducks up for adoption

Aspen Times Staff ReportAspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – Ducks may now be adopted for Aspen’s 18th annual Ducky Derby, scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 8. Duck adoptions are $10 each; three for $20; five for $30; or 10 for $50. For every 3,333 ducks adopted, one will be a special Lucky Duck worth $1 million if it comes in first place. If none of the Lucky Ducks arrive first, the Aspen Rotary Club will award $10,000 cash for first prize. The day-long Ducky Derby Festival will be held in Rio Grande Park. In addition to the rubber duck race that launches from the No Problem Bridge at 2:09 p.m., the festival features numerous children’s games, contests, art projects and other activities along with food, drinks and live music.Ducks can be adopted online at http://www.aspenrotary.org. Helping the 38 year-old service club stage this event is Two Old Hippies, which has joined the flock as the title Lucky Duck sponsor. The store, located at 111 S. Monarch St., has hippie rubber ducks on sale through the Ducky Derby. Other sponsors include John Olson Builders and Morris & Fyrwald/Sotheby’s International Realty. The event, put on by the Aspen Rotary Club, uses proceeds to fund the service club’s High School Scholarship Program, its World Service Projects and its grant program to local nonprofit organizations.
