Aspen Cycling Club ready to climb

ASPEN ” The ninth road event of the Aspen Cycling Club’s summer series, the classic Highlands-Maroon Bells-­Ashcroft-King Hill Race, takes place Wednesday at 6 p.m.

Known for its climbing, the race begins at the base of Aspen High­lands. Racers will climb up Maroon Creek Road to the Maroon Bells before turning around at the entrance to the parking lot and descending back down to Castle Creek Road.

Riders will be routed onto Castle Creek via the bike path network just below Aspen High School. Once onto Castle Creek Road, there’s the ascent up to Ashcroft. The C, masters and junior class racers will finish at Little Annie’s Road on the way up. The A class racers will continue all the way to the end of the road at the Pearl Pass turnoff before turning around and descending to the finish at Little Annie’s Road.

Riders will compete in the following categories: Senior men A, senior women A, veteran men A, senior men citizen, veteran men citizen, senior women citi­zen, veteran women, junior men, junior women, mas­ter men, master women, grand masters and kids.



Race changes and/or cancellation due to inclement weather will be announced at the start. Limited parking is available at Highlands, and racers are encouraged to ride to the start.

All area riders are encouraged to come out and race. Advance registration is not required. Racers can regis­ter and pay at the start between 5- 5: 50 p. m. Entry fees are $5 for ACC members and $10 for nonmembers. Pre­paid members must check in before the race start.
