Aspen Criterium sign-up open

ASPEN – Registration for the Aspen Criterium, to take place in conjunction with the Aspen Cycling Festival, is under way, event organizers said Thursday.

Set for May 20, the race begins and finishes in the heart of downtown Aspen. This 0.9-mile loop takes riders on the closed city streets of downtown Aspen. Typical races feature a four-corner race, but the Aspen Criterium boasts 10 corners.

The race is sanctioned by USA Cycling, the official governing body for all disciplines of competitive cycling in the U.S., and the Bicycle Racing Association of Colorado.

On May 19, the Ride for the Pass will take place on the traditional route from the winter gate, four miles east of Aspen, to the ghost town of Independence, approximately 10 miles east of the gate on Highway 82. The estimated elevation gain is 2,500 feet.

Participants can register for the Ride for the Pass at; Aspen Criterium contestants can sign up at
