ASPEN – Monday’s Aspen City Council meeting will begin a half-hour late while elected officials celebrate seven local athletes who are heading to the Olympics.

At 5 p.m., City Council members will be at the Gondola Plaza at the base of Aspen Mountain for a community celebration to honor the Olympians.

Mayor Mick Ireland will read a proclamation officially declaring February 2010 as Aspen Olympians’ Month, with individual days dedicated to each athlete.

Council members will then convene in council chambers at 5:30 p.m. to begin their regularly scheduled meeting.
