Aspen comes together

Dear Editor:

I want to let the people of Aspen know how thankful I am personally for their support of the Jimmie Heuga Center for MS benefit screening of my film, “Skiing Everest.” I had sold out three previous shows in Aspen with this film, so I was skeptical about doing another event. But Dr. Scott Alter and his wife Jennifer convinced me that doing a benefit with the film in the name of their daughter Sam, who has MS, was a good idea. And it was. We sold out a VIP cocktail party and then the Wheeler Opera House for the screening and raised a ton of funding for a great cause. Scott and Jennifer worked incredibly hard to promote the event, and their effort paid off.

Jimmie Heuga had a goal to use the mountain/skiing culture to promote wellness for people with MS to have a better quality of life. He once told me that he thought because skiing is such an incredibly fun thing to do that skiers appreciate it a bit more when they lose their health (and can’t ski). So he engaged other skiers to help him with his fight against MS. So for me personally, to see this incredible ski town come together in the name of Jimmie Heuga to fight MS, that was a special thing. Jimmie is gone, but his spirit is alive and well as last night will attest.

For those in the MS community, I care, and Aspen cares!

Mike Marolt
