Aspen church hosts organ recital

ASPEN – A free organ recital, featuring organist Joseph Galema, is set for Tuesday at 6 p.m. at the Aspen Community Church. The concert, titled “Raze the Roof,” is a nod to the upcoming replacement of the church’s original roof, and donations for the project will be accepted. The sanctuary will be closed the first week of May.

Galema is the music director of the Air Force Academy and a faculty member of the Lamont School of Music at the University of Denver. The concert will include works by J.S. Bach, Franck, Krebs and Lefebure-Weby as well as contemporary composers David Cherwien and Gwyneth Walker. The concert concludes with Vierne’s “Carillon de Westminster,” based on the Westminster chime made famous by Big Ben in London.
