Aspen Center for Environmental Studies offering kids day camps during holiday break
Aspen Center for Environmental Studies is offering the Winter Explorers day camp for children ages 6 to 12 at Hallam Lake in Aspen over the holiday school break.
The camp will run each weekday from Monday to Friday, and Dec. 26 to 30, from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Daily themes will make each class unique and interesting for repeat explorers, according to Aspen Center for Environmental Sstudies.
Participants will discover a winter wonderland first-hand at the Hallam Lake nature preserve as they track animals, build a snow cave, make winter art creations, learn winter survival techniques, investigate how the natural world copes with this harsh season and more.
Those with a busy work week, last-minute holiday chores or families looking to ski without the kids are encouraged to register. Need-based scholarships are available.

Old Powerhouse, Armory options aired
On Monday night, the City Council listened to ideas for each old building. However, nothing laid out what the community space would actually entail — only aspirations and gathered community comment.
