Aspen bus service gears up for winter

Aspen Times staff report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN – The bike racks will soon come off Roaring Fork Transportation Authority buses and the ski racks are going on, as the agency gears up for its winter service.

The bike racks will remain on the front of RFTA buses until Saturday, Nov. 21, even as the ski racks are reinstalled on the sides of the vehicles. By Thanksgiving, Nov. 26, the transition should be complete, according to RFTA.

A reminder to bicyclists: the hours in which bikes can be loaded on buses is reduced now that darkness comes earlier. Bikes may be loaded on buses from 7 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. (at night, the bicycle wheels block bus headlights).

Schedule changes, as RFTA ramps up service for the winter season, will begin Nov. 26 with limited ski shuttle service between Aspen and Snowmass. The Galena Street Shuttle also resumes operation on Nov. 26. Both are free to ride.

Starting Dec. 12, free skier shuttle service begins to Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk, as does direct service between Aspen and Snowmass Village (no transfer required).

Also starting up Dec. 12 is the Cross Town Shuttle, Highlands bus and Woody Creek bus. All are free.
