Aspen broomball tourney draws nation’s top teams

Some of the best broomball teams in the country will be in Aspen this weekend for the 1999 Rocky Mountain Broomball Classic at the Aspen Ice Garden.

The event is sponsored by the Aspen Broomball Association.

Play is scheduled Friday, Saturday and Sunday in men’s and coed divisions.

Aspen will field a team in the Men’s B Division. Aspen also will field a team in the Coed A bracket.

The Minnesota Flames, the 1999 World Coed Broomball champions, will be on hand for the Coed A tourney. The Flames are based in Golden Valley, Minn. The Maniacs from Kremmling also will play Coed A.

The Coed B team includes Tres Crown of Minneapolis and Budweiser from Duluth. The Tres Crown Men’s A team also will play along with the Coke team from Colorado Springs and a Nomad group. The Men’s B group features Bennings from Andover, Min., the Fighting Saints from St. Paul and the Aspen men’s team.

Play begins at 7 p.m. Friday. Games resume at 8 a.m. Saturday and continue all day. Sunday play runs from 6:45 a.m. to 1 p.m.
