Aspen airport unveils new flight info display

Aspen Times Staff Report
Aspen, CO Colorado

ASPEN ” A new $49,000 flight information display is now online at the Aspen-Pitkin County Airport.

And airport officials say the new program will keep travelers well-informed of changes and cancellations.

“The new system will be more timely and more accurate,” said David Ulane, assistant aviation director.

The former system relied on often outdated information from airline websites that airport staff had to upload manually, and flight information was often unreliable, Ulane said.

But the new system, run by Com-Net Software of Dayton, Ohio, taps into various websites ” including Federal Aviation Administration data ” and automatically updates information.

During “irregular operations,” such as weather delays, busy airport staff could manually update the information from any Internet terminal.

The new information system will be online at the airport and on cable channel 8 Wednesday.
