The city of Aspen has announced the return of Aspen 360°, a civic engagement program that provides community members with an in-depth look at how local government operates, according to a press release.
Applications for the upcoming session open on June 12 and will remain available through July 14. The program begins on Aug. 21 and runs through Oct. 2, offering seven weeks of hands-on learning experiences designed to empower residents to better understand and contribute to their community.
Aspen 360° combines weekly classroom sessions with immersive field trips, providing a behind-the-scenes view of city operations. Sessions will be held on Thursdays, with classroom meetings scheduled from 3-5 p.m. and field trips taking place earlier in the day from 12:30-2 p.m.
Each week focuses on a different aspect of city government, including an overview of Aspen’s municipal structure, public services, environmental initiatives, infrastructure and planning, fiscal responsibility, and community engagement.
The goal is to equip residents with the knowledge and context needed to participate meaningfully in local affairs.
Those interested in applying can find additional details and access the application portal at aspen.gov/1663/Aspen-360.
Nearly 500,000 pounds of concrete dropped by helicopter for new Snowmass lift
Helicopters shouldn’t fly. That would be the takeaway if one was faced with a multi-ton Black Hawk — known by its owners as “The Lorax” — hovering overhead with 4,000 pounds of concrete in its grasp, its blades kicking up 35-mile-per hour winds and turning an otherwise pleasant summer morning into a violent, stick-ensued dust bowl.
