DENVER ” As weather warms, more and more rocks are being dislodged and falling on highways or near them.

On Friday, a truck hit a basketball-sized rock on westbound Interstate 70 in Glenwood Canyon. State troopers say a truck passenger was treated for minor injuries.

Nancy Shanks of the state transportation department says a boulder 30-foot long, 12-feet wide and 12-feet tall tumbled down McClure Pass. It landed on the edge of Highway 133 between Paonia and Carbondale.

On Thursday, a 3-foot diameter rock came down onto Colorado Highway 139 in Douglas Pass, between Loma and Rangely.

In addition to damaging cars, rock falls have claimed several lives in recent years.
