Artists and squirrel meat

Aspen Times writer

Dear Editor:Since listening to the sophomoric attitudes of local radio personalities and reading adverse opinions in letters to local newspapers, I decided to offer an out-of-town artist’s viewpoint. We do contribute to the local economy at the rate of 8.6 percent, with 3.5 percent to Pitkin County and 2.2 percent to the city of Aspen, with the rest to the state. I also show in a local gallery, which pays rent and taxes, and receives a large portion of each original sold.We do not sleep in the woods and subsist on berries and squirrel meat. Our hotel bill will be more than $1,000, not to mention food, gas and other items.Fortunately, other areas where we show – Sausalito, Calif., La Quinta, Calif., Santa Fe, N.M., to name a few, seem not to have the attitudes and tunnel vision of some of your local artists and Goldmasters. We will be showing at the Beaver Creek Village this coming weekend (the 17th year of the show there), where attitudes are positive in regards to our being there.Rock and Cody NewcombPayson, Ariz.
