Art museum an ‘incredible opportunity’
October 31, 2010
We are writing in support of the new Aspen Art Museum. This new building will add to Aspen’s long history of art and architectural excellence that help to separate our town from other resorts around the world. The museum, its board and the staff are committed to Aspen and to collaboration with the multitude of art organizations in town. The building and the museum programs will make Aspen more attractive as a destination and provide great enjoyment for all with an open mind.
The museum has been very involved in the Aspen community in recent years and is committed to continuing on with this tradition. They have taken an art program into Pitkin County Jail, they have developed a strong children’s program in the summer and created family events year-round, and have established a great program for young locals called the Contemporaries.
The new museum will attract visitors to town and also add to the “total experience” of Aspen. The public space and free admission will provide benefits that all will be able to enjoy. Another benefit will be the vacancy at the existing museum building and the opportunity for other local organizations and individuals to take advantage of a great building. This is an incredible opportunity for Aspen and one that we should welcome.
