Around Aspen: Roaring Fork Conservancy
A lovely summer afternoon highlighted the annual midsummer River Rendezvous for members and friends of the Roaring Fork Conservancy. The party was held at the Dallenbach Ranch on the Frying Pan River near Basalt on July 20. Festivities included silent and live auctions and a dinner. I couldn’t make it so my daughter, Jess Bates, photographed the party.
Best-selling author Lisa See who has a home in Aspen, gave a talk and booksigning about her new book, “Dreams of Joy” at Explore BookSellers in Aug. 11 and on Aug. 17 she will be having a reception, talk and book signing at the Bookworm of Edwards at 295 Main Street in Edwards. Did you see all those bicyclers in crazy outfits riding around town yesterday? It was the 23rd anniversary for the Aspen Tour de Rump and the hosts included Ed and Lise Abraham, Stan and Toni Bialek, Dick and Julie Bulkeley, Susan and Bob Donatelli, Anne Foster and Kurt Duldner, Bob and Judi Francis, Barry and Thorey Goldstein, George and Meredith Gracis, Terry Hale and Joanne Stern, Bill and Deborah Johnson, Ron Krajian, Joan and Lee Leavenworth, Bill and Linda Meier, Brent and Sissy Miller, Bernard Phillips, Donna Rowlands, Gail and Ron Soderling, Tom van Straaten and Nadine Asin, George Johnson and Trixie Wlting and Mert Wallen.
A garden party and Capital Campaign Update was held July 31 at the home of Barbara and Gerald Hines at their home on Shady Lane alongside the Roaring Fork River.
And the 21st annual Aspenblow party titled “Rockin’ On Top of the Rockies” was held July 30 on the back of Ajax Mountain where Midnight Mine and Little Annie’s roads meet. The party included music, dancing, food and beverages. Hosts of this gala were Fred and Genene Ayarza, Michele Bodner, Kyle Boyd, Denny Burrill, Bill Burwell and Diana Reardon, Guinn and Betsy Crousen, Jim and Janie Ellis, Rodney Knutson and Nancy Snell, Michael Kravitz, Monty and Paula Loud, Renell Maiersperger, Jack Miller, Janis Nark, Ed and Pat Peterson, Joan Shodeen, Holly Reed Simpson, Dick Stahura, Jack and Pam Stanford, Dicky and Kathy Stephenson, and Graham Wilgus.
The August-September issue of Colorado Expression magazine includes an article and many photos about Aspen architect August Reno and the remodel he did of an Aspen iconic house at Aspen Highlands. The house was originally designed and built in 1955 by Aspen architect Sam Caudill and has now been reborn by August Reno.
Undercurrent … When walking in downtown Aspen last week I was nearly run over by people looking down and talking or texting on their cellphones while walking and not looking where they were going!
