Around Aspen: Peak Magazine Party

MEHAt the Peak magazine luncheon at Plato's are, left to right, Hailey Dart, Jan Sarpa, guest of honor Jennifer Figge and Bonnie McCloskey. Jennifer and Bonnie have been friends since childhood.

In mid-March some of Aspen’s leading women were feted by Peak Magazine at a luncheon at Plato’s Restaurant. On hand were female entrepreneurs, women in business, some heading non-profits, many in real estate and social leaders.

Guest of honor was Jennifer Figge, who this week is swimming across the Atlantic Ocean for the third time. Figge, who lives in Aspen, was featured in the winter issue of Peak Magazine and told the group how she swims from a little island off the coast of Africa and in a few weeks will wade ashore in the Caribbean. She swims across the ocean with the support of a boat drifting along with her. She rests and eats on the boat and she swims with a “shark shield,” an electronic device strapped to her leg that sends out an electric current meant to discourage sharks. On an earlier swim, she tried swimming in a cage to protect her from sharks, but found she injured herself on the cage.

Undercurrent … The song of the robin is heard throughout the land.
