This has been a busy summer so I will double up on some of the events. Since there are so many photos, I’ll keep the column short. This summer was the 60th Anniversary for the Aspen Music Festival and School, and it was celebrated at a concert at the Music Tent and gala reception at the new Greenwald Pavilion, located next to the Elizabeth Paepcke Wildflower Garden on the Aspen Institute campus. The annual exhibit and auction of artworks by local artists was held on a sunny afternoon on the lawn and in the gallery of the Red Brick Center for the Arts. One of the last parties of the summer season will be on Wednesday, Aug. 26, when Les Dames d’Aspen hold their annual Fleur de Lis Ball, with auctions, dinner and dancing. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Hotel Jerome and tickets are $175 apiece. For reservations call Christine Aubale Gerschel at 925-9028. Undercurrent … on these early chilly mornings, I always see a group of locals and tourists gathered at the corner of the Wheeler Opera House by Bentleys, soaking up the early rays of sunshine.
