Around Aspen: More Theatre Aspen
Aspen Times Weekly
There were so many photos and everyone had such a good time that I am running another column of Theatre Aspen gala photos.
Did you know that the Rocky Mountain Institute (RMI) in Old Snowmass is partnering with the Clinton Climate Initiative and retrofit firms Johnson Controls and Jones Lang LaSalle in the restoration and retrofitting of the landmark Empire State Building in New York City? Says Anthony E, Malkin, president of Malkin Holdings, the owners of the building, “We’re taking a building that is 78 years old to the peak of modernity, to the forefront of efficiency, without affecting the core elements of its character.” An article about the project is in the March-April 2010 issue of Preservation magazine.
Lisa Curtis will be feted at a 100th birthday celebration on March 28 at the Edgewater Pointe estates in Boca Raton, Fla. Lisa and her husband, Kurt Curtis, had a second-home condo in Aspen’s East End for many years. We became friends through Terese David back in the 1950s. When the children were little, Lisa and Kurt would buy goodies at The Epicure or The Delice and bring them to the children and we would all have tea. Lisa was an avid photographer and we covered many events together. In later years, she and I would have an annual lunch at The Hotel Jerome. Our last one was in January 2000. Lisa and Kurt’s son, Judge John Curtis, still comes to Aspen for all the parties and skiing during the Christmas-New Year holidays.
Undercurrent … in the morning all through the neighborhood, you can hear the scraping of snow shovels on the sidewalks.
