Around Aspen: More Old Timers

Mary Eshbaugh Hayes
Aspen Times Weekly
MEHJack McTarnaghan brought his daughter, Jetta McTarnaghan McWhirter, to the Old Timers get-together.

There were so many wonderful Old Timers at the party at Bumps recently that I just had to run another column.

The Aspen Historical Society, which now runs the Old Timers party, had placed photographs of Aspen characters on all the tables – with the characters sporting old-timey mustaches. It’s a take-off on the “Got Milk?” campaign with celebrities sporting mustaches of milk. The Historical Society’s campaign is called “Got Stock?” and welcomes people to take stock in Aspen (like the characters in the photographs) by becoming a member of the Aspen Historical Society, which will then record their photo and story in the society’s archives. So join the society and join this group of Aspen characters.

For more information about membership, call the Aspen Historical Society at 970-925-3721, ext. 109.

I’ll keep the column short during the offseason so I can work in as many photos as possible.

Undercurrent … So many people have discontinued their land telephone lines and just use their cell phones. So often when you call someone you get the message, “This number has been discontinued and is no longer in service.” And it makes the phone book useless. So I think it’s time for the cell phone companies to issue a book with cell phone numbers.
