Around Aspen: More Food & Wine

Mary Eshbaugh HayesAspen Times Weekly

It seemed that more Aspenites than ever attended this year’s Food & Wine Classic in Aspen. Maybe because the popular one-day ticket was available. But they still had a chance to taste all those good wines and margaritas and rum drinks … and eat all the goodies. It’s like one great big cocktail party with lots of good treats and conversation. The next big gatherings of the summer are the weekly farmers’ markets. Last Saturday my daughter, Jess Bates and I had our booth for the first time (we will be there every other Saturday). Saw former Aspen photographer Jeffrey Aaronson, who now lives in California and no longer goes out on photo assignments. He is doing fine art photography and selling well in galleries. His wife, Becky Aaronson, will participate in the Santa Barbara Triathion on Aug. 28 and on Oct. 10 will run in the Portland Marathon … all to raise money for cancer research. While running marathons in New York City (three times), Paris, Rome, Portland and Santa Barbara, she has already raised more than $55,000 for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center.Last week, Aspen Valley Hospital Volunteers celebrated their 50-year anniversary (1960 to 2010) at at a luncheon at the Inn at Aspen.I’m not going to write much this week as I want the photos to show up well.Undercurrent … Aspenites are grumbling, “Now that the summer equinox has come and gone, the days are already getting shorter.”
