Around Aspen: More Aspen Institute
Aspen Times Weekly
The Aspen Institute Summer Celebration was such a large gathering on such a lovely summer afternoon that I will do another column with more photos.
Formed by Walter Paepcke after the Goethe Bicentennial in Aspen in 1949, the Aspen Institute was for many years called the Aspen Institute for Humanistic Studies and many business leaders of the United States have attended, studying the social and political philosophies of the world.
The mission of the Aspen Institute is to foster enlightened leadership and open-minded dialogue. The present president and CEO is Walter Isaacson, a former editor of Time Magazine.
Undercurrent … I used to love the off-seasons when you would meet friends on every street corner and catch up on the news. Now everyone is either texting or talking on the phone and they don’t even look at you when passing by.
Start a dialogue, stay on topic and be civil.
