Around Aspen: Les Dames d’Aspen

Les Dames d’Aspen held the ninth annual Fleur de Lis Gala Celebration in late summer at the Hotel Jerome. And now the group is bringing back the ever-so-popular Gala New Year’s Eve dinner and dance at the St. Regis hotel.

The New Year’s Eve party was a tradition and a favorite for years at the St. Regis. Tickets are $500 per person. For reservations call Les Dames president Christine Aubale Gerschel at 970-925-9028. Les Dames was founded by Christine some 27 years ago as a fund-raising arm for Aspen Ballet and it continues to fund Aspen Santa Fe Ballet, the Aspen Writers Foundation, Aspen Theatre, Jazz Aspen and the Aspen Music Festival. It also provides scholarships for area students who pursue the arts in college. Over the years it has given many millions of dollars to the local arts organizations.

Aspen photographer Nora Feller has an exhibit of her work until January 1 in the lobby gallery of the Wheeler Opera House. An opening reception will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 9, in the Wheeler. More than 30 works from Nora’s portfolio have been selected for the exhibit, including portraits of Julia Child, the Dalai Lama, Madonna, Prince Rainier, Malcolm Forbes, David Hockney, Sean Penn and Kelsey Grammer.

Undercurrent … Be careful … it is so icy out there.
