Summer 2009 started off on a high note with Food & Wine Magazine’s Classic in Aspen. In spite of the recession, the parties at the hotels and tastings in the Big Tent seemed as crowded as ever. The 4-day event started with a party at the Little Nell Hotel given by Aspen Magazine and then a welcoming party at the St. Regis Aspen given by Food & Wine Magazine. There will be more photos of the parties next week.Now coming up is the 7th Annual Aspen Antiques & Fine Arts Fair which will be held July 9-12 at the Aspen Ice Garden at 233 West Hyman. Admission is free and there will be more than 30 antique and art and jewelry dealers from around the world.Candace Patricia Whipple of Aspen earned a BA degree in May from Connecticut College in New London, Conn. … and she also earned a listing to the Dean’s list for academic achievement.Gretchen Greenwood of Aspen has announced the high school graduation of her daughter, Taylor Ortiz from the American School in Switzerland (TASIS) in Lugano. Taylor was born and raised in Aspen and attended the Aspen School District through 10th grade. She graduated with the TASIS class of 2009 with an International Baccalaureate Diploma and Highest Honors. After being back in Aspen for the summer to continue the graduation celebration with her Aspen friends, Taylor will return to Europe to attend the University of St. Andrews in St. Andrews, Scotland.Lowell H. Lebermann, Jr. is back to spend the summer in Aspen from Austin, Texas.Undercurrent … Suddenly we are seeing all the summertime faces again in Aspen.
