Around Aspen: Evening at the opera
Aspen Times Weekly

In mid-July Alex Kaufman held his 13th annual “Evening at the Opera” dinner party with members of the Aspen Music Festival and School Opera Program singing wonderful songs from West Side Story, La Boiheme, Carmen and Camelot. The male singers were handsome, and the girls were young and lithesome. We all marveled that such thin and little girls had such big voices.
Alex was serving his Kalex wines from his Central Otago Vineyards located on the South Island of New Zealand. The wines are not yet in Aspen stores, but are being featured in several local restaurants.
Aspen photographer David O. Marlow is featured in the current issue of LUXE Magazine with a 12-page feature article of a traditionally styled Colorado home designed by Aspen architect Bill Poss with interiors by Paul McDonnel. The Italian styled home sits on 500 acres in the Aspen area with a large motor court and numerous outdoor living spaces including an outdoor pool and pool house. David is now off to Los Angeles and Minenesota to shoot several homes for upcoming articles.
The Breast Cancer Research Foundation which was founded by part-time Aspenite Evelyn Lauder will hold its annual Syumposium and Awards Luncheon on Wednesday, Oct. 26, at the Waldor-Asptoria in New York City. Another board member of the foundation is former part-time Aspenite Anne Bass. Once a year the foundation brings the researchers that it supports from around the world to New York for the annual event.
For tickets, contact the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at 60 East 56th Street, 8th Floor, New York, NY 10022.

Bar Talk: Barraquito
On a recent trip to Spain, I discovered something that I believe tops the espresso martini. It’s called a barraquito.
