Around Aspen: Aquarius Ball

This has been a winter of fabulous costume parties. It must be in defiance of the Great Recession.

The latest was The Aquarius Black and White Ball, where everyone was asked to dress in black-and-white formal or in costume. The gala dinner dance is given every year at the Hotel Jerome by people who have birthdays in February, the sign of Aquarius.

Hosts this year included Toni and Stan Bialek, Alan Brookes, Sherrie Cutler and Bob Donahue, Loretta DeRose, Susan and Bob Donatelli, Janie and Jim Ellis, Billie and Greg Erwin, Joanie and Lee Leavenworth, Joanie Lebach, Janine Sevigny and Jack Leeney, Peggy Mason and Mark Lee, Tom Mueller, Sandra Murray, Howard Nitschke, Marie and Bill Pizzuti, Deborah Post, Marjorie Layden and Henry Schimberg, and Kellene and Dwight West. Sadly, Howard Nitschke died a week or so after the party. I have great photos of him but didn’t think I should run them. If you want some, call me at 970-925-7127.

Interior designer Donna Livingston is in town, staying at The Little Nell. She has designed many Aspen homes.

Undercurrent … The snow is shrinking back from the house and I have tulips and snowdrops coming up by the front door, which faces east and gets the morning sun.
