Arizona woman dies after raft overturns in Colorado
Aspen, CO Colorado
CORTEZ, Colo. ” An Arizona woman has died after her inflatable raft overturned in high water on the Upper Dolores River in southwest Colorado.
Montezuma County Sheriff Gerald Wallace says the body of 40-year-old Jeanne Haylett of Flagstaff was found Monday not far from where the raft capsized a day earlier.
Wallace says investigators believe she drowned. Sheriff’s Lt. Ted Meador says neither foul play nor alcohol is suspected.
Meador says one other person who was in the raft was able to swim to safety.
He says the raft capsized in rough water about 200 to 300 yards from where it was launched. Haylett’s life preserver was found downstream Sunday night.
The Aspen City Council directed staff to move forward with the Burlingame early childhood education center, but decided it needs more information on the affordable housing units that are part of the schematic design at a work session Monday.
