Approve Lift One

Dear Editor:

The City Council was indeed voted in by the residents of the city to make tough decisions like the Lift One project. Undoubtedly this will be a meaningful change in that section of town.

Let’s not forget, however, that the master plan is the result of an inclusive, community effort. The plan, in its current iteration, is the result of negotiation and compromise that finally satisfied the participants and their myriad perspectives.

All of us, natives and visitors alike, loved Aspen long ago, as we do now and will in the future, not in spite of change but because Aspen has evolved as we all have demanded over time. Aspen cannot survive by excluding the tourist and second-home owner populations in order to satisfy the nostalgic wishes of a portion of the community. Aspen can and will prosper and retain those intangible characteristics that make it so appealing to all who know her, perhaps due in part to improvements like the Lift One project, which will accommodate many of OUR needs.

City Council should approve the Lift One project and respect the earnest efforts of the community in shepherding in responsible growth.
