Applauding lift operators
Dear Editor:During this extremely busy season, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the countless Aspen Skiing Co. lift operators who provide a safe, valuable and much-needed service to Challenge Aspen. Our nonprofit organization provides opportunities for people with disabilities, and in eight years of operation, we have never experienced a serious chair-lift injury as a result of lift operator error. To put that statement into perspective, we bring well over 1,000 participants to our valley’s ski mountains each winter, so with nearly 10,000 total participants and various disabilities and equipment needs, we have been a truly fortunate group. While I certainly credit our outstanding team of instructors, our commitment to participant safety and our extreme dedication to on-hill training and safety courses, I also give high applause to Skico for its support of our organization’s lift operator training and their trained and educated operators themselves.Houston CowanCo-founder and CEOChallenge Aspen
