APD big help to school transit

Dear Editor: On behalf of the Aspen School District Transportation Department and its staff, we would like to thank the Aspen Police Department and Police Chief Loren Ryerson for all their support throughout the years. With Loren’s help, his officers spend countless hours following buses and protecting the students on our buses. They enforce overtaking stopped school bus laws and often come to court on their day off to help prosecute violators. Without their help our bus routes would be far more hazardous. This is not the norm through out our state. Police this dedicated to our students welfare is rare. They also have programs in place to promote school bus ridership by rewarding students who ride the bus to school. They have officers at the school to promote safety programs and aid our students in many ways. The APD and Chief Ryerson do a great job and myself and my staff would like to say “thank you,” and we support you 100 percent.Fred Brooks, director of transportationAspen School District
