Apathy alive and well

Dear Editor:Wow, I have been unknowingly actively supporting the Roaring Fork Club golf course expansion all this time and I didn’t even know it. Scott Condon’s (May 18) article quotes Basalt Planning Commission Chair Joe Zuena as saying, “that 90 to 95 percent of town residents ‘are obviously in favor of it’ since they weren’t attending hearings on the club’s expansion.” Thanks Joe, for the reminder that if you don’t take control of your own government, it will do it for you. Wait a minute, I just realized I am supporting a lot of stuff – the war in Iraq, ANWAR oil exploration, opening up roadless national forests, and who knows what else! Sakes alive, I’ve got some work to do!Apathy is alive and well in Basalt, and I’m heading it up. Well, I quit. I’m going to try and bring the 90 percent in favor down to 89.9 percent by showing up at the next meeting and letting my voice be heard. Maybe I could even get some facts about the development first. This is going to be great!Erik HendrixBasalt
