Another successful ride

Every year for the past nine years the Independence Pass Foundation has sponsored the Ride for the Pass, which has grown over that time into a beloved community tradition. This year the Ride once again provided an opportunity for both competitive and recreational bikers to experience the beauty and serenity of Independence Pass while it was still free of auto traffic.I am writing to thank the many people and organizations which helped the foundation put on a successful event. First and foremost, a thank you to the Weather Gods who provided us with a beautiful spring day to ride. Our deepest thanks to our sponsors and door-prize donors who covered the cost of the event and provided some extraordinary schwag, which was duly distributed at the post-race party. Ute Mountaineer and Aspen Velo deserve special thanks for providing us with pre-race registration locations. Aspen Velo also donated our grand prize, a new Raleigh mountain bike.We want to thank the Colorado Department of Transportation, the U.S. Forest Service, the Aspen Skiing Co., the Colorado State Patrol, the Pitkin County Sheriff’s Department, the Town of Basalt, the City of Aspen, the Given Institute, Pyramid Printing, ACTIVE.COM, A&H Graphics, Jeanette Williams and KNFO Radio, Naomi Havlen and The Aspen Times, Rick Carroll and the Aspen Daily News, The Cantina Restaurant, Colorado AudioVisual, Affordable Portable Services, RFTA, Joel Scott, Mail Managers Inc., Waste Management Inc., and Blazing Adventures for logistical, publicity and equipment assistance.I also want to thank our unbelievably enthusiastic and dedicated volunteer corps who contributed so much to our success. Volunteers included Vicki Cox, Kathy Wiesenbaugh, Jim Stark, Geanne Schutze, Mara Rojas, Charlie Hopton, Jackie Kasenbach, Gina Pogliano, Karen Gieske, Bill Boughton, Ashley Anderson, Jeff Key, Jennifer Lamb, Harry Andrews, Tim Mooney, Gerry Sullivan, Hensley Peterson, Fadia Middlebrook, Chris and Sally Faison, Cindy Curlee, Debbie and Scott Kelly, Darryl Grosjean, and Annie, the fabulous door-prize ticket-grabber.Finally, I want to convey special thanks to our timing crew from the Aspen Cycling Club, including Susan Carollo and her friend Julia, Ned Ryerson and Jane Finsterwald. If anyone has been inadvertently left off this list, please know that we appreciate your efforts. Congratulations and thanks to all and thanks, as well, to the people of the Roaring Fork Valley for supporting the work of the Independence Pass Foundation.Mark Fuller, director
