Another reason to visit

Dear Editor:I lived in Aspen for many years and am delighted that now, in addition to my usual nostalgia for the town, there is another reason to drive up from Boulder: the Hudson Reed Ensemble. This past weekend I was lucky enough to get to see Kent Reed’s latest offering to the community, a spunky vaudeville collection aptly called “Melange.”Reed’s directorial hand was apparent in the many charming touches throughout: teasing the audience with a hot dance sequence viewed for the first few minutes through a transparent scrim before the curtains actually part to reveal the action; two performers stopping, coyly, to blow out the delicate flames on a candelabra as they move dramatically off stage; and on and on. The upbeat and spirited performance was particularly surprising in light of Reed’s last presentation, “The Crucible,” which was equally impressive, but for a whole host of entirely different reasons. I look forward, as I suppose quite a bit of the town does, to seeing what he will be up to next.Tina CollenBoulder
