Another reason to visit Aspen
I am an Aspen local writing to urge our community and our City Council to support Michael Fox and his application for approval of the Aspen Club housing expansion project. It is a well conceived development that will help maintain and enhance the vitality of the current Aspen Club facilities.
Years ago when the club was first developed, the Aspen Club Townhomes were built to provide short-term rentals to support club activities. These overnight rentals made sense in that area, and they supported what was happening at the Aspen Club. Since those early days, nearly all of those condominiums have turned into permanent residences or second homes that are not rented. The new Aspen Club Living project proposes to bring back rental and short-term lodging activity to the Club campus, and to use these new facilities to renovate and further enhance the Club’s facilities. This makes sense to me.
Aside from all the advantages to our community of an improved Aspen Club, I see the project as providing another good reason for people to visit our Aspen community, year-round. The health-oriented programs that can be provided with the new lodging and club facilities will attract visitors that may be different from our winter skiers and summer culture and outdoor recreation enthusiasts. Our local retailers and restaurants need the people that the Aspen Club project will attract.
I believe the lodging project makes sense for the overall Aspen Club environment, and I know many of the nearby residents are in support of approval. Already an important asset to our town, the improved Aspen Club will offer just that much more to our community. As a local business person, I urge support and approval by the Aspen City Council. Aspen will be a better place for it.

The coronavirus pandemic provided an unlikely springboard for the Aspen Brain Institute’s programs, allowing them to go virtual and global and sustain a large audience outside of its Aspen bubble.
