Another marathon challenge met by Challenge Aspen

In late October, all 44 members of the Challenge Aspen Marathon Team crossed the finish line of the Adidas Dublin Marathon, whether they wheeled, walked or ran.

Challenge Aspen, a local nonprofit that offers adaptive skiing and snowboarding programs for people with disabilities, uses international marathons as a fundraiser. Since 2002 the nonprofit has sent a marathon team to six marathons, netting more than $400,000 that directly benefits pro grams for people with disabilities.

The Challenge Aspen Marathon Team welcomes all wheelers, walkers and runners, regardless of their experience, offering 22 weeks of comprehensive training, direction and conditioning with top-shelf trainers. For this year’s marathon, 33 marathoners and 11 5K participants trained weekly, beginning in June, with coaches Brian Collins and Austin Weiss.

This year five of the team’s runners qualified for the Boston Marathon ” no small feet. Er, feat, that is.
