Mindfulness courses coming to Carbondale

Staff report

John Bruna and Laura Bartels, respectively the co-founder and executive director of the Mindful Life Program, will lead two Mindfulness Foundations courses this summer — one in July and one in August. Bruna and Bartels will guide participants through five sessions to develop the practical skills needed to live with intention and attention.

“The goal is to cultivate inner peace, wellness and genuine happiness,” said Bruna, a former Buddhist monk and leading voice on the topic of mindfulness.

The Mindfulness Foundations courses offer 16 hours of training over four weeks, with four two-hour evening sessions and one day-long session at the end of the month. The first course is offered on Tuesday evenings July 7 to 28, with the full-day session Aug. 2. The second course also is on Tuesday evenings, Aug. 4 to 25, with the full-day session Aug. 30. They will be held at the Mindful Life Program center at the Third Street Center in Carbondale. The cost is $250.

Bruna and Bartels host a new weekly program, “Habits of Happiness,” on Aspen’s Grassroots TV Channel 12 called “Habits of Happiness.” Bruna’s first book is due to be published early next year. They also lead a weekly mindfulness group Mondays in Carbondale.
