Angler finds body near Roaring Fork

ASPEN – The Pitkin County Sheriff’s Office is working to identify a body found Saturday afternoon by a fisherman along the Roaring Fork River outside of Woody Creek.

The body, which appeared to be of a white man, about 50 to 60 years old, was discovered about one-quarter mile upstream of Wilton Jaffee Park, the Sheriff’s Office reported. The area where the body was found is heavily wooded, with thick vegetation, about 25 feet from the river.

The body was removed from the scene with the help of Mountain Rescue Aspen and a local rafting company, and turned over to the county coroner’s office. An autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.

No identification was found with the body and the cause of death was not immediately apparent, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
