Anderson Ranch in Snowmass names new director

SNOWMASS VILLAGE – Anderson Ranch Arts Center announced Tuesday that it has named Barbara Bloemink to be its executive director, effective in May.

Bloemink has worked as an international museum consultant, museum director, curator, author, and art historian. Previously the curatorial director of the Smithsonian’s National Design Museum, Bloemink served as the director and chief curator of five art museums including the Guggenheim Hermitage Museum, the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art, the Contemporary Art Center of Virginia, and the Hudson River Museum.

She has organized more than 60 museum exhibitions internationally, including “Florine Stettheimer: Manhattan Fantastica” at the Whitney Museum of American Art. Additionally, she has written numerous books and has lectured and taught on international contemporary art and design.

She succeeds Hunter O’Hanian, who served Anderson Ranch from 2006 to August 2009, when he resigned to serve as vice president of Advancement at Massachusetts College of Art in Boston.
